SOUTH LAKE TAHOE
Restaurants & Bars
Basecamp Pizza. One of our favorite pizza places. The Thai Pizza and Basecamp Pizza are amazing. Also highly recommend the cadillac margaritas. Kid friendly, regular music and cornhole. Gets very busy with people coming down from the slopes.
My Thai. Really good Thai Food. We loved everything.
Steamers. Great local spot. Good food, strong good cocktails and live music.
Artemis. Great Greek food. I love the rice and the lamb skewers. All the food is good. The location next to the lake has better ambiance for sitting outside.

SL with Kids
South Lake Library - They have an indoor playground and a lot of times they have special events for kids.
Tahoe bowl is a great spot to take the kids bowling. Very basic old school bowling alley, with old school prices.
Lakeside Beach. They have a playground and it is easy to access, cool spot to quickly go see the lake in the snow. In summer they sometimes charge entry and parking can be tough. There is a hotel bar/restaurant called the landing across the street for a quick cocktail and bathroom stop.
Cuppa Tahoe. Really cute combo of bookstore, coffee shop and work space. They have a children's area with a box of books that the kids can read, really good coffee and nice atmosphere. The owner is very nice and is originally from the Bay Area.
Magic Carpet Mini Golf. Cute little course. Next door to an outdoor brewery with food trucks.
Safety
Snow - remember driving safety in snow and ice, wear shoes with traction
Bears - bears can be everywhere, bears without ear tags are wild and more aggressive, don’t leave any food or gum in the car bears open doors, if you hear noises in garage or outside don’t be too quick to investigate, you don’t want to scare the bear, when going outside at night first turn on the lights and make noise before stepping out.
Lake safety - the lake is extremely cold, especially away from shore, be careful jumping in from boats, every year there are incidents when men jump off a boat on a warm day and have a heart attack from shock of the water and drown.
Storms - rare but storms happen, even in summer. If you are on a boat and see the storm gathering on the mountains get to shore or a cove and wait it out. If you are out on flat area or near metal get to safety, sudden lightening is also not uncommon. The mountain storms can come out of nowhere and move in very quickly.
Busy Town
Suggest going early to beat the crowds for photos but staying a little later when the little stores open, most of the restaurants here are touristy and not so great but I recommend the sandwich place below and ice cream is the way to go, as well as some cute shops.
They have a petit train that you can buy tickets for and hop on at Sacre Ceur. I highly recommend this to see the village and then hop off back where you got on and go wakl around. If you go early in the morning it will be very nice because you won’t get the crowds
It is at the top of a hill so suggest being dropped off by uber at the top of the hill and then making your way down, you do not want to climb up. I would start by Sacre Ceur and then head into the village from there. There are a lot of good restaurants a little down but in the village itself it is ve
